Easy As Pie: The Web App Gallery Tool In Action

This article showcases our just-announced integration of Microsoft’s Web App Gallery within the WebControlCenter.  Be sure to check out our major announcement about the gallery here for full details.

I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again:  Here at Newtek, we like making things easier for our customers—whether it’s new supported products, tools, or even better documentation.

Thanks to our integration of Microsoft’s Web App Gallery into the WebControlCenter, installing many of today’s most popular web applications just got a whole lot easier, too.  Easier for you, and, if you’re a reseller, easier for your clients.

To give you an idea of how easy, we wanted to give you a quick walk-through on how to use the installer.  As an example, we’ll show you how to install WordPress, one of the most widely used web apps on our servers:

Installing WordPress, in a Flash

In order to access the Web App Gallery, log into your account through the WebControlCenter and then locate the Application Gallery tool under the Resources menu. Please note that you’re site must be hosted on a Windows 2008/IIS7 Server in order to use this tool.

Find WordPress in the gallery, then click “install.”

Next, the installer will ask you if you have a database set up yet. If you do, click ‘OK’.  If you don’t, click the provided link to create one, which will take you to the MySQL Admin page where you can set one up.

Now you can specify the path for the installation (for example, if you want your blog to be located at http://www.domain.com/blog, enter ‘blog’ for the path.  If you want the site to be installed on the root of your site, leave the path field blank).

You’ll also need to select your database from the dropdown, and also create unique keys for passwords and authentication (the keys can be whatever you want them to be).  When done, click “OK.”

You’re done! WordPress is now installed.  Click the provided link to view your site.

  4. Hi Sandy. The Web App Gallery is managed via your web browser, so you can definitely install apps onto your site when using your Mac.
